1. Follow Public Health Orders

 

Following public health orders is a must for your safety and for the safety of others. Following government orders is the most effective way to stop the spread of Covid-19. It is also the fastest way for us to get back to our normal lives. 

Quarantine is an effective way to stop the spread of Covid-19 for people who are traveling. Since the coronavirus has spread to every corner of the world, you must quarantine whenever and wherever you travel until the pandemic ends. To quarantine, you must self isolate for 14 days whenever you travel from or to Canada to make sure that you don’t come in contact with anyone.

A safer and more convenient alternative to quarantine would be to avoid traveling. The Covid-19 pandemic cannot end if people travel as much as they used to before the pandemic. The only reason you should travel is if you have absolutely no other option.

Wearing masks and encouraging other people to do the same is crucial to stop the spread of this virus. Wearing a mask can only be effective if everyone in the room is wearing a mask because a mask captures any respiratory droplets that leave your mouth. These droplets can easily carry viruses and other people can breathe them in.

If you feel sick or are at risk of a serious illness, it’s best to stay at home and away from others as much as you can. Being sick makes you more vulnerable to the coronavirus and your body won’t be able to fight back the way it usually would.

2.  Stay Physically Active to Survive COVID-19

 

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought many changes to our lives. One of those changes is that we may have become lazier and tend to sit around more. Though it may not seem to affect us in the short term, physical inactivity can lead to long term effects such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

This may not sound like staying physically active, but waking up early plays a crucial role to keep you active. When you wake up late, you feel very lazy and unmotivated, and your brain isn’t as sharp. This will discourage you from getting your exercise and you will want to rest instead of exercise during the day.

When you wake up early it motivates you to be active. If you’re motivated, you can go for early morning jogs. Not only does jogging improve your stamina and speed, but jogging in the morning also makes you feel refreshed and burns belly fat. Early morning jogs also contribute to:

  • improving your mental health
  • boosting your immunity, and
  • reducing stress.

Other than early morning jogs, exercising throughout the day is another way to stay physically active. Even 15 – 30 minutes of exercise a day is more than enough to keep you physically and mentally fit. Exercising is especially important if you sit behind a screen most of the day. Some good ways to exercise are to try fitness programs such as HIIT on youtube or fitness apps such as Gold’s APM.

Healthy eating is something you have probably heard of many times and for good reason. A well-balanced diet plays a significant role in making sure that your body gets all the nutrients it needs. Your diet should include all necessary nutrients such as water, protein, and vitamins, as well as fats and carbs.

3.  Explore New Things and Stay Productive

 

During the Covid-19 pandemic, a lot of us have so much free time that we don’t know what to do with it. Some just waste time playing video games or watching TV. But there are many productive ways to spend your free time and help you to survive COVID-19. Some of the best ways to make good use of your free time are to try new things and learn new skills. The smartest people are using this time to build and expand their skillsets for when the world opens up again.

A good skill to learn during the Covid-19 pandemic is how to earn money online. Many people believe that living with the coronavirus might become the new normal, and many more will start to believe the same if the pandemic lingers on. This is why it is really important to have multiple sources of income, and preferably online.

It is also a good idea to explore skills such as cooking, or hobbies such as arts and crafts. Cooking is a good skill because it allows you to control what you put in your food. It also makes you less reliant on processed foods. You can choose healthier ingredients and avoid spending extra money on meals eaten out. Exploring new hobbies can be a great way to survive COVID-19. Spending time on arts and crafts may also be beneficial for developing and enhancing brain function.

4.  Keep in Touch with Family and Friends to Survive COVID-19

 

During the pandemic, we’ve realized the importance of people and how reliant we are on the people around us. We often overlook the importance of keeping in touch with the people that are important to us. We assume that everything will go back to normal after the pandemic ends. However, this is not the case. Occasionally video calling or voice calling friends and relatives is essential to maintain good relationships.

Frequently video or voice call your friends and family to ask how they are doing. It feels nice to have someone put aside some time just for you and to ask you how you are doing. Not only is this an act of kindness, but it is also very beneficial to you as well. Talking to someone and sharing your experiences with them makes you feel happy and see all the positive things in life. Try it once, and see how you feel.

The best way to maintain good relationships is to make a list of people you want to call every week or month. It may sound silly at first but it is the most effective way to maintain a relationship. Occasionally calling your friends and relatives show them that you care about them and that you are willing to put aside some time to talk to them. This will make them want to stay close to you as well and will only strengthen your relationships. Even though it’s critical to have physical distance, you can still be social to help you survive COVID-19.

Google Hangouts is one of the best platforms for group video calls. It is also really easy to set up because it is run by google and only requires you to have a google account (Gmail). For texting, and voice calls, WhatsApp is a good option. Even though it works best on mobile, you could also get it on laptops and Chromebooks. Whatsapp also has a video call option, though it tends to lag after a few minutes. However, the lag might not be the case for everyone. There are other apps to consider as well, including WeChat, Facebook, and Skype.  WeChat is an app that is commonly used in China.

For newcomers, WhatsApp has become one of the most used apps to stay connected with others who have courageously left their homes to move to Canada. Whether you’re connecting with other newcomers with a shared experience, or your friends and family that you left behind it’s a great way to stay in contact. Keeping in touch with others will help you to survive COVID-19 this winter. It can also help to decrease the isolation from friends and family that you may be feeling.

 

 

5. Take Online Courses

 

Online courses are a great way to learn new skills from home. You can learn new languages, coding, podcasting, photography skills, and almost every other skill you can imagine. There are a lot of websites that offer online courses. Some of the best websites for online courses include Coursera, Udemy, and Lynda. And when your mind is active, it can be a great distraction to help you survive COVID-19.

Coursera is a platform that offers online learning by partnering with top universities around the world. It has over 45 million learners and 3800+ courses. Some courses even offer online degrees, certificates, and graded assignments. Most courses on Coursera cost around $100 and you can audit almost every course for free but without the certificate and graded assignments. Some courses are even completely free with graded assignments.

Udemy is another great platform for online courses. Udemy has the world’s widest selection of courses with more than 130,000 courses! The majority of courses can be accessed for only around $10 with the most expensive courses at $200. Udemy courses are pre-recorded videos that you can watch at your own pace. Business, IT, design, photography/ video, and marketing are some of the most popular topics on Udemy.

Lynda or LinkedIn Learning is an online learning platform that has online courses ranging from 3D animation to business. Lynda has a monthly subscription that costs $35 but you can access all of the courses for free if you have a public library card of whichever municipality you live in. Accessing Lynda from your library will be different depending on which library you use, but you should look for the section that is labeled digital resources.
